Where did the
name originate?
In 2020, the Crystal City Business Improvement District expanded to include Pentagon City and Potomac Yard, necessitating a new umbrella name for the cohesive downtown within which these three neighborhoods exist. Simultaneously, during the successful campaign for Amazon’s HQ2, Alexandria and Arlington began pitching the area as “National Landing,” a reference to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and the area’s significant transit connectivity. The combined needs of the expanded Business Improvement District geography and the historic economic development deal resulted in the permanent adoption of “National Landing.”
